The Emperor's Tombstone at Woodlawn
Around July 4th 1996

The original tombstone was a simple cross with the name "Joshua Norton" and his dates. Wealthy friends saw to it that Norton received an impressive funeral. Norton's corpse was dressed in a fine black suit and bow tie. The body was laid to rest in a silver and rosewood coffin. These effects were moved from the Masonic Cemetery to Woodlawn in 1934.
